Abstract

759,399. Floor-sweeping machines. ALLEN, J. J. C. March 2, 1955 [March 3, 1954], No. 6187/54. Class 138(1) [Also in Group X] A factory floor sweeper comprises a chassis carrying a power motor 20, horizontal and vertical brushes, and is guided by a handlebar 40 mounted for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis to bring a jockey wheel 45 into, or out of, contact with the ground. The jockey wheel is driven from the power motor by a belt 37, if desired through a clutch, so that it is disconnected when in the inoperative position. A lever 48 has a notch 49 which engages the abutment 50 of the jockey wheel frame 43 to retain it and the handlebar assembly in a raised position to which it is biased by a spring 46. The horizontal brush is pivoted on an axis 17 which is displaceable on the arm 55 for height adjustment, being retained by a bolt in one of a number of holes 57. A vertical brush 31 is provided and is raised by engagement of the pin 26 in the slot 32. A water tank and a pump are also fitted to supply a spray bar (not shown). The .chassis is supported on road wheels 16 and castor wheels (one only, 61, shown). A container 70 for sweepings is provided.
