A telescopic support for an electrical device such as a lamp comprises a rigid tubular member having one end curved on a large radius and telescopically receiving a resiliently flexible tube, the lamp &c. being carried by the projecting end of the flexible tube and being maintained at any desired position of extension by the friction arising between the flexible tube, in tending to straighten, and the inside of the rigid tube. As shown, in a support as disclosed in Specification 732,984, which includes a metal, tubular member 1 having an end member 2 selectively positioned in a bracket 10 by the engagement of flanges on a collar 9 with a radially projecting helix on the member 2, the outer end of the rigid tubular extension 3 is curved at 31 on a large radius and telescopically receives a resilient helical spring 16 through which pass electrical leads to the lamp 4. The spring 16 bears on balls or rollers in a collar 17 screwed to the end of the tube 3 and carries a stop at its inner end which abuts the end of a slot 21 in the tube 3 to prevent disengagement of the telescoping parts. In modifications the stop is a flexible sleeve of self-adhesive tape or a hollow plug having radially projecting screws engaging internal grooves in the tube 3 and the spring 16 has a stiffening, tubular lining of plastic or flexible spring steel.
