Abstract

537,417. Supports for lamps &c. BATE & CO., Ltd., J., and FISHER, S. N. Dec. 20, 1939, No. 32636. [Class 52 (v)] A flexible tubular support arm for mounting a lamp, mirror, display stand or holder for shop fittings and the like is provided in the interior with a reinforcement consisting of a metallic wire which is flexible but not resilient and is fixed to the arm at one end, and at the other end is clinched, cranked or curled over so as to prevent axial movement into the arm. The support arm retains any position to which it is flexed. As shown, one end of a flexible metallic tube a is secured to a fitting b, Fig. 1, which may be clamped to a pillar by a pinch bolt in an axial bore h. The other end of the tube is secured to a nipple i carrying a shouldered cup member m. A soft iron reinforcing wire d passes through the tube and is fastened at one end to the fitting b by a grub screw e, and at the other end, Fig. 2, is bent into a curl n within the cup member m so as to prevent lateral movement of the wire or axial movement into the tube. One or more additional reinforcing wires, which may be unattached, may be arranged within the tubular arm.
