Abstract

743,715. Clamps. MINISTER OF FUEL & POWER. April 23, 1954 [Jan. 26, 1953], No. 2124/53. Class 61 [Also in Group XXX] A clamping device used for withdrawing arch girders and the like A, B jointed together by fish plates c, comprises a pair of jaws 1b, 2 which engage tne fish plate, and a toggle which locks the jaws in their fully clamped position. In operaticn the link 4 is adjusted along arm 1a to provide a suitable spacing of the jaws, a block of wood or rubber 11 is inserted between jaw 2 and the associated fish plate, and the arms 1a, 3b are moved together until the pivot '9 passes beyond the line joining pivots 8, 6. This toggle action locks the jaws and allows the bolts to be removed safely from holes 17. The device is released from a distance to allow the arch to collapse, by pulling on a rooe 12. A pin (not shown) may be inserted through a hole 10 to further lock the device in its clamping position.
