Abstract
742,836. Sparking plugs. K.L.G. SPARK. ING PLUGS, Ltd. July 22, 1954 [July 1, 1953], No. 18281/53. Class 7(4) In a sparking plug at least that-part of the body 10 which is liable to attack by hot combustion products has its surface 16: impregnated with a.: substance such aschromium or silicon, imparting properties thereto which enable it to resist the corrosive and erosive attack of the combustion products. The centre elect-' trode 12 is located within the insulator bore by vitreous seals 13 whilst the annulus 15 which bridges the gap between the active electrode ends is coated with a semiconducting layer as disclosed in Specification 724,016. The inner portion 16 of the steel casing 10, which forms the earth electrode, the active ends of the electrodes and the internal and external insulator surfaces for a part of the height thereof are impregnated 17 with silicon or chromium, which is applied as described in Specifications 586,241, 586,376, 646,637 and 646,638 [all in Group II]. The impregnated surfaces comprises a layer of an alloy rich in chromium or silicon which gradually changes away from the surfaces to the base metal. Specification 559,709 also is referred to.
