Abstract
Metallic and non-metallic powders are spheroidized by being subjected to a detonation wave within an elongated container having an open end, said detonation waves being produced in known manner by igniting a detonatable mixture of a fluid fuel including pulverized fuel and an oxidizing gas within the container. The spheroidized powder discharged from the open end of the container is collected in a liquid or yielding medium (e.g. wax). Particle sizes range up to 35 microns. A list of metals spheroidized is given.ALSO:Non-metallic powders are spheroidized by being subjected to a detonation wave within an elongated container having an open end, said detonation waves being produced in known manner by igniting a detonatable mixture of a fluid fuel (including pulverized fuel) and an oxidizing gas within the container. The spheroidized powder discharged from the open end of the container is collected in a liquid or yielding medium (e.g. wax). Particle sizes range up to 35 microns. A list of materials spheroidized is given.
