742,352. Crimping yarns and threads. COTONIFICIO DI LOMBARDIA SOC. ANON. INDUSTIRALE. Dec. 18, 1953 [Dec. 20, 1952; June 22, 1953; Nov. 12, 1953], No. 35337/53. Class 120 (3). Superpolyamide thread is permanently crimped by applying thereto a twist of at least 3000 turns per metre, winding on a rigid support such as a bobbin, setting on the support by the action of saturated steam at temperatures of between 110‹ and 115 C. for 3-3¢ hours, and untwisting. The high-twist may be attained in stages and the wound thread treated in a kier under vacuum and dried in a hot air stove at a temperature of 45-50‹ C. before untwisting. Two threads which have been highly twisted in opposite directions in two stages and subsequently backtwisted to the same twist, say 135 left-hand turns/metre, may be doubled together and given a final twist of, say, 135 right-hand turns/metre. Between two stages of high-twisting the thread may be assembled into a skein and dyed.
