The yarn package e, carried on a tube d and driven by friction drum (not shown) is supported by a spindle.c taking into bearing blocks f in arms b of a cradle a, each block f being furnished with a flange g and a lever j so that it may be turned through, say, 90 degrees, to bring a radial slot m in the block into register with a slot in the end of the arm b, so that the spindle c may be slipped in to the cradle (or removed therefrom), whereas the blocks may be turned (Fig. 5) to house the spindle in the frame for winding the package. A split washer i is preferably positioned between the arm b and the lever j which is held to the block by a nut k. Projections o on the arms limit the movement of the levers j.
