740,824. Transferring vehicles to and from pit cages. BARKER & SON ENGINEERS, Ltd., W. H. Jan. 12, 1954 [Jan. 20, 1953], No. 1605/53. Classes 78 (4) and 104 (2). Rams feeding trucks between a pair of pit cages and traversers situated at opposite sides of the pit are arranged so that when extended they do not prevent movements of the traversers. The ram heads t of the rams k, m, n of Fig. 4 have carriages mounted on wheels x which run across tracks a<SP>1</SP>, a2, bl, b2, b<SP>3</SP> on the traversers a, b on to tracks f, g, i adjacent a pit top c and a tippler j. After one of the. rams k, m has pushed an empty truck p into one of the pit cages to expel a full truck on to the traverser b, the traverser a is moved to receive a truck from the tippler so bringing the tracks a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP> into position to permit retraction of the rams k, m. Similarly, when the ram n has pushed a truck from the track b<SP>1</SP> on traverser b into the tippler j and the traverser is moved to bring the track b<SP>1</SP> adjacent one of the pit cages, one of the tracks b<SP>2</SP>, b<SP>3</SP> is aligned with the track i to permit retraction of the ram n. Alternatively, as shown in plan in Fig. 3, each ram head t may be carried by outwardly facing channel guides u supported by rollers v on fixed supports w so dispensing with the carriage for supporting the ram head. The cylinder q of the ram is mounted between the guides u. The invention may be applied to pit bottom as well as pit top equipment.
