Abstract

740,760. Rivet-feeding mechanisms. KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL CO. Sept. 13, 1950 [April 24, 1950], No. 28526/52. Divided out of 740,741, [Group XXII]. Class 78 (1). Rivets are discharged from hopper 20 by reciprocating plunger 18 furnished with slots 35 into which the rivets fall and then pass downwards into slots 37 mounted on the hopper. As shown, the plunger is actuated by piston 19 and is positioned by bottom plates 21, 22, said plunger being provided with radial arms 33, The rivets, after being collected by the plunger pass from slots 35 to slots 37, the latter being bevelled and passing through gaps 38 formed in the side of the hopper and being provided with pocket members 42 so that excess rivets fall off due to the bevelling or due to said pocket member. The rivets fall into partially-closed shoots 41 whence they are released one-by-one by device 44 and finally discharged by device 45 to lock together the rim and hub of a wheel.
