Abstract
740,639. Tunnel kilns. CREMER, G. May 15, 1953 [May 21, 1952; May 29, 1952], No. 13728/53. Class 51 (2). [Also in Group XIII] In a combined tunnel kiln and drying chamber in which hot water from pipes in the cooling zone of the kiln is used to heat the drying chamber, the heat deficiency is made up by hot water from either a separate boiler or water tubes disposed in either the preheating zone or the firing zone of the kiln. The amount of extra heat supplied is controlled in accordance with temperature conditions in the drying chamber or chambers. The amount of heat given up to the water tubes may be regulated by adjusting ceramic screens in front of them. The drying chamber is heated by pipes, preferably ribbed, of such length or construction that the temperatures of the chamber and of the water, which is re-circulated back to the heat source, are substantially equal. The invention may be applied to tunnel kilns in which the heat is supplied by combustible substances mixed with the charge.
