Abstract

740,186. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 13, 1954 [Feb. 11, 1953], No. 959/54. Class 42 (1). [Also in Group XXXVII] In an electronic seaming machine having a radio-frequency oscillator and a treadle-controlled clutch for the machine drive, an oscillator-control switch assembly is inserted as a mechanical link between the treadle and the clutch, whereby the oscillator is automatically switched on just before the machine starts and switched off just after the machine stops. A lever 22, pivotable on the same bar 10 as the treadle 11, Fig. 1, is connected by a link 38 to the clutch lever and also carries a pressuresensitive oscillator-control switch 23, Fig. 3. A rod 15 fixed to the treadle passes through slots 17 in the sides of lever 22 and engages a leaf spring actuator 36 for the button 37 of switch 23. When the treadle is depressed to start the machine, bar 15 causes spring 36 to close the oscillator switch which then pivots at 27 against the action of a spring 32 ; when the lost motion of bar 15 in slots 17 has been taken up, level 22 pivots downwardly to actuate the clutch. When the treadle is released to stop the machine, link 38, under the action of the clutch return spring, swings lever 22 upwardly to its initial position as the clutch disengages, and thereafter spring 33 restores rod 15 to its initial position against the top of slots 17 and button 37 is released to open the switch.
