A stop motion for a textile machine comprises a bell crank lever'A pivoted at a to the machine frame, a notched link B pivoted on the bell crank lever engaged by a roller c carried on a second link C supported by a lever c1 pivoted at a3 to the machine frame, the lever c1 also supporting the armature, d of a solenoid D which, when energised, raises the lever c1 to release the link B from a retaining roller or rod b to allow the bell crank lever to pivot under the action of a spring a2 to actuate a belt fork or clutch to stop the machine. An electric relay d1 is energized from a step down transformer d3 when either of a plurality of push button switches d4 are pressed thus energising the solenoid D.
