Abstract

739,793. Vehicle lamps. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. July 7, 1954 [July 20, 1953], No. 19937/54. Class 75 (4). In a lamp, more particularly a vehicle rear lamp, divided into compartments, a partition 1 separating two compartments 3, 4 is formed with an aperture 20 whereby the light emitted directly from one compartment 4, is supplemented by light passing from that compartment through the aperture 20 into the other compartment 3 where it is appropriately reflected. The lamp shown has a further compartment 5 formed by a further partition 2 and the three compartments have a common window 7 comprising a red zone 7a covering the top compartment 3, a white zone 7b covering the middle compartment 4 and a yellow zone 7c covering the lower compartment 5. A single tubular lamp bulb is mounted within each of the top and lower compartments to serve as stop and signal lights respectively, and two tubular bulbs are mounted within the middle compartment, one 12 behind and one 9 in front of a red translucent partition 11 extending across the middle compartment in front of the aperture 20 in the partition 1. The rear bulb 12 serves as a tail light, its light passing through the red translucent partition 11 and through the clear zone 7b and also through the aperture 20 to be reflected by a reflector 17 in the top compartment through the red zone 7a. The front bulb 9 serves as a reversing light. The two bulbs 9, 12 in the middle compartment are arranged at right angles to the bulb in the top compartment and the aperture 20 is of slot form and is disposed parallel to the bulb 12.
