739,124. Speedometers; counting-apparatus. FARREL, J. M. Sept. 7, 1953 [Sept. 12, 1952], No. 24704/53. Classes 106 (1) and 106 (3). A mileage indicator comprises a plurality of distance totalizers which indicate respectively the distances travelled in predetermined speed ranges. A shaft 9, Fig. 2, rotates at a speed proportional to the speed of the vehicle to which the device is applied and is connected through gearing to a shaft 24, Figs. 2 and 3, carrying a cam 25 which reciprocates an L-shaped lever 26, 32. Below the shaft 24 which may carry a speed-indicating pointer, are three totalizers actuated respectively on depression of the associated members 33, 34, 35 by the lever 26, 32. A centrifugal governor 10, 13, 14 on the shaft 9 is connected through a sleeve 12 and linkage 29, 31 to the lever 26, 32 which is . thereby displaced transversely as the speed of the vehicle varies and is at any instant located above the member 33, 34, 35 appropriate to the speed. Knife edges 39 positioned between the members 33 and 34, 34. and 35 ensure that only one of such members is actuated by the lever 26, 32.
