Abstract
197,321. Rowntree, E. F. May 4, 1922, [Convention date.]. Speed indicators.-Apparatus for measuring the consumption of petrol or other fuel with respect to distance traversed, comprises a flow meter including a differential pressure gauge connected with a logarithmically graduated pivoted member associated with a similar member controlled by a speed-responsive element. In the form shown, two quadrants M, T pivoted at m and controlled by blade springs P anchored at Q and bearing on cam-shaped surfaces S are logarithmically graduated on their arcuate edges and connected respectively with the flow meter and with the speedometer. One quadrant bears a pointer moving over the scale on the other to indicate the consumption in miles per gallon. The flow meter comprises a Venturi device B communicating with opposite sides of a diaphragm E connected by rods H, H<2> with the quadrant M. Entrapped air may escape from the diaphragm chambers through pipes F, G lengthened sufficiently to prevent overflow of petrol. Specification 194,756 is referred to.
