Abstract

739,111. Dropped-foot appliances. BLACKBURN, W. D. July 2, 1954 [July 10, 1953], No. 19178/53. Class 81 (2). A dropped-foot appliance comprises a relatively stiff spring member of J-shape having an upwardly directed part to be secured above the ankle and a forwardly extending part to rest upon the user's instep within a shoe, boot or a band passing round the boot. The appliance comprises a plate of spring metal having an upwardly extending portion 11 which is secured to the user's leg by straps 19, 20 and a portion 13 which extends over the user's instep and is held against the foot by the user's footwear or a band passing round the foot (not shown). The forward end of the instep portion 13 may be deflected so that it lies against the side of the instep (not shown). The plate has a padding of felt or plastic material, and may be perforated for ventilation. The plate may be formed in two pieces (not shown) which can be flexed relative to one another against a stiff resistance to vary the angularity between the upwardly and forwardly extending parts. The device may be built into the tongue of a boot or shoe (not shown).
