Abstract
809,859. Shoe trees. MOSES, C. Feb. 20, 1956, No. 5183/56. Class 17(3) A shoe tree made of a single piece of flexible material such as a moulded plastic or metal 210 comprises, Fig. 1, a sole-engaging base portion 214, an upwardly disposed toe portion 216, side portions 212, an upwardly extending shank portion 215 and, preferably, a flexible upper portion 213 extending from the top central part of the toe portion 216. The shank portion may have a serpentine rearward extension shaped to engage the rear of a shoe but the upper and side portions are shaped to grip the shoe toe when inserted so that a rearward extension is not essential. A slot 217 and a projection 218 may be provided so that pairs of trees may be joined together in inverted and opposed positions. Various modifications are illustrated and in Fig. 16 the upper flexible portion 813 is extended at 820 so that when in a shoe the shank portion 811 forces it against the shoe lacing. In this and other examples the side portions 812 extend from the shank portion 811. The upper portion extending from the toe portion may be omitted and the side portions may be made wider to give added support.
