Abstract

738,993. Road-traffic studs. WARD, W. G. Dec. 2, 1953, No. 2696/53. Class 3 (2). A road stud comprises a container 1 which is adapted to be positioned in a recess in the road by pins and has four parallel grooves 1a interconnected by a cruciforni groove 1b. A cylinder 4, containing a spring-loaded glass reflector 8 disposed between collars 6, 10 is slid into the container 1. The reflector 8 slides in an antifriction layer 9 made of natural or synthetic rubber, cork and rubber, or felt. The reflector 8 may be made of metal with a glass ball retained therein; the ball being provided, if desired, with a flat to give increased reflection of incident light on the curbed part thereof or to receive light from the light source. The member 10 may be secured in position by a bayonet fitting or pin and slot arrangement and rests on a pedestal 13 carrying a rubber bung 12 for the light bulb 11. The bulb is screw-threaded into the bung or held therein by a bayonet fitting and is covered by a transparent dome 14 which may be coloured. The disc 10 has drain holes 10a; the water in the container 1 being expelled through the grooves la when the reflector is depressed. The disc 10 may be located above the spring, in which case the bulb may project into the reflector. In a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the members 11, 12, 13, 14 are dispensed with and the member 10 rests on the bottom of the member 4. The reflector may be silvered, provided with artificial reflecting material and/or facetted.
