Abstract
738,586. Aircraft. SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES DU NORD. July 29, 1952 [April 2, 1952], No. 19109/52. Class 4. A flying machine for the transport of freight which may be jettisoned in flight of the kind in which the hold comprises at the rear a transverse opening, preferably rectangular, of clearance area substantially equal to that of the hold, provided with a closing device comprising a panel movable between a closing position and a retracted position in which it lies within the hold, so as never to protrude from the hold, is characterized in that the panel is guided by runways on the inner faces of the side walls of the hold and retracts to within the upper part of the latter. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, a closing panel Q is provided with rollers at the top and bottom which co-operate with guideways 35 and 36 to guide the panels from the closing position to the retracted position shown in dotted lines at Q<SP>1</SP>. The cable 39 and chain 40 form a loop over a sprocket 44 and roller 43, and the top of the door Q is fastened to a point on the chain. Revolution of handle 48a will retract or replace the door. The portion P of the floor is pivoted at C so as to be adaptable as a loading ramp. In the embodiment of Fig. 10, the runway 35 and the corresponding roller are dispensed with, and replaced by an arm pivoted at 50 and articulated to panel Q at 51. Electric motors 48 and 53 supply power for movement. A further embodiment, (Fig. 12) employs a number of articulated elongated box-like members 56 which may be drawn into the space in the double walled ceiling by rotating drums 63 and 64.
