Abstract

738,039. Operating clutches. PINNACLE PRESS PTY., Ltd. March 20, 1953 [Sept. 5, 1952], No. 7747/53. Class 80 (2). [Also in Groups VIII and XXX] In a book trimming machine (see Group VIII), a shaft 258 is rotated intermittently from a rotating shaft 27 through the intermediary of a friction clutch comprising a disc 249 fixed on the shaft 27 and a coacting disc 248 freely mounted on the shaft 27 and faced with friction material 248a. The disc 248 is formed integrally with a chain sprocket 252 having a slotted boss 252a into which pass shoes pivotally attached to horizontal bars 244 the free ends of which are pivotally secured to the upper and lower ends of a block 243 having secured thereto a rod 242 provided with a collar 241. The collar 241 has secured thereto one end of a lever 238 pivotally mounted on the frame of the machine at 239 and provided at its other end with a roller 240 engaging an adjustable cam 234, 235. The disc 248 is normally urged into contact with the disc 249 by a spring 253 but the discs are drawn apart by the bars 244 when the cam 234, 235 displaces the lever 238.
