737,675. Tables ; cabinets. BEAMISH, V. W. Feb. 12, 1954 [Nov. 12, 1952; April 8, 1953], Nos. 28509/52 and 9532/53. Class 52 (3). In an article of furniture having a shelf movable on rigid, parallel links from a position in which it forms part of a composite top surface to a lower position, individually spring-loaded slidable locking pins, projecting from the ends of the shelf, engage in apertures in the links or in fixed parts of the article to lock the shelf in each position, the pins being operated through flexible cables actuated by a finger-piece on the shelf. Trolley shelves 4, 5 connected by links 6, 7 pivoted on end cupboards 1 are locked in tiered and coplanar positions, respectively, by the engagement of spring-loaded pins 13 in apertures 15, 16 in the links. The pins being retracted to allow movement of the shelves by the cores of Bowden cables 11 actuated by a lever 8, fulcrumed on a block 9 secured to the underside of the shelf 4, and operated by a plunger 10 projecting from the front of the shelf. In a kitchen cabinet having a shelf taking up alternative positions, the links are fore-shortened on the side of the mounting pivots remote from the shelf and the core of the Bowden cable is operated directly by a trigger.
