Abstract

737,641. Blasting cartridges. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 30, 1954 [Nov. 6, 1953], No. 30737/53. Class 9(1). A fluid pressure blasting cartridge comprises a high tensile steel body 1 containing a gas-producing charge 14 and sealed from the discharge head 2 by a rupturable member 15 of filled synthetic resin. The member has a peripheral recess housing a resilient sealing ring 16 which may be of neoprene or rubber. A heating charge to decompose the main charge may be blackpowder and is housed in a fireproofed cardboard cylinder 11, the heating charge being electrically initiated. The main charge within a fireproofed cardboard container may be a composition comprising 49 per cent ammonium nitrate; 34 per cent magnesium nitrate hexahydrate and 17 per cent wood flour. With this charge, the heating charge may comprise 60 per cent guanidine nitrate, 31-5 per cent potassium persulphate, 8 per cent cuprous chloride and 0À5 per cent mineral jelly. In both compositions all parts are by weight. The member 15 may be of nylon.
