736,688. Cleaning coal. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. Sept. 9, 1953 [June 9, 1952], No. 14465/52. Class 82 (2). Coal of a size of ¢inch and below is freed from gangue by being introduced into a verticallyrising column of liquid medium in a pipe 10 at an intermediate region thereof, through a pipe 11, the liquid medium carrying air and flotation reagents and the rate of flow being adjusted so that the coal rises with it. The medium and coal passes into pipe 16 which acts as a syphon, thus lowering the pressure in the rising pipe 10. A shaking screen 17 separates the coal from the liquid which passes into the centrifugal pump 20 for recirculation. Air and flotation reagents are added at 22 and make up water at 23. Dirt is evacuated at 14. If desired, the density of the medium may be varied by dissolving material in it.
