Abstract

488,588. Concentrating ores. HOAG, E. H. March 5, 1937, No. 6634. [Class 82 (ii)] A flotation apparatus for concentrating ores comprises an elongated receptacle with impellers therein for pulp agitation wherein the receptacle is divided longitudinally into a plurality of agitation and quiescent chambers, and valve-controlled air-distributing pipes are disposed longitudinally in the quiescent chambers. A steel &c. tank 10 has inclined side walls 11 from which a trough 15 depends, pulp passing from a launder 28 through pipe 29 to the trough; longitudinal partitions 30 form a central agitation chamber divided by transverse partitions 31, and further longitudinal partitions 32 form quiescent chambers 33, 34. Rapidly rotating vaned impellers 16 are arranged in the trough 15 and draw air through their hollow valve-controlled shafts 19, driven by a motor 26, to agitate the pulp. Perforated air supply pipes 35, which may be covered with fabric, are arranged longitudinally of the quiescent chambers and are controlled by valves 38. At the end of the tank is a tailings discharge opening 40 controlled by a slidable gate 41 and surrounded by an open ended casing 42 through which tailings flow upwardly. Concentrates pass over side lips 43 to launders 45 while undesirable material returns below partitions 30 to trough 15. A valved pipe 46 permits discharge of sand &c. A flat plate 48 is arranged above the tank and has baffles 49 extending down into the quiescent chambers.
