Abstract
735,835. Flexible pipes; joints. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Sept. 29, 1953 [Sept. 29, 1952], No. 26750/53. Classes 99 (1) and 99 (2). [Also in Group XXXVI] A flexible conduit comprising a plurality of braided wire tubes 14-17 lined and impregnated with flexible material is made by assembling the tubes to form a mulitply hose, filling the hose and the spaces in and between the walls of the tubes with a viscous compound, suspending the hose with its longitudinal axis vertical until excess compound flows out to leave a central passage, and baking the hose to convert the compound to a non-flowable solid. After assembling the tubes they may be soldered together at each end and inserted in an annular ferrule 18 of channel-shaped cross-section which is then secured in an end-fitting 11. A primer may then be applied to the internal surface of the hose and the assembly be immersed in the impregnating material while the pressure is reduced to permit the material to permeate the tubes, when the pressure is restored. Excess compound may be removed from selected surfaces of the hose before baking, or after the baking has been started but before it is completed. The impregnating compound may be a fluid dispersion of polyvinyl chloride which is reduced by baking to an elastomeric vinyl compound, or the compound may comprise a silicone rubber.
