735,833. Magnetic compositions. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Sept. 17, 1953 [Oct. 14, I952], No. 25726/53. Class 38 (2). A green body from which a ferrospinel composition having ferromagnetic properties can be formed comprises a mixture of powdered metal oxides, water emulsion of paraffin and potato starch flour. In making a ferrite material, ¢ per cent and 1 per cent by weight respectively of potato starch flour and zinc stearate are added to a mixture of powdered oxides comprising in parts by weight 20 of MnO 2 , 10 of ZnO, 70 of Fe 2 O 3 , and 2 of CuO which oxides have been calcined at 900‹ C. About 8 per cent by weight of an emulsion of 46 per cent paraffin and 54 per cent water is mixed in and the mixture is worked into a puttylike mass with 14 per cent by weight of water, and converted into pellets which are dried and moulded into green bodies. These are fired at 900-1500‹ C. for 10 minutes to six hours. The zinc stearate which acts as a lubricant during moulding may be omitted or replaced by stearic acid or magnesium stearate. The potato starch flour may be present in weight between “ per cent and 1¢ per cent and the emulsion may comprise from 1 to 5 parts of water per part of paraffin. The oxides may be of Mg, Zn and Fe.
