Abstract

734,642. Straw spreaders for combine harvesters. ALLIS - CHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. July 9, 1953 [Nov. 3, 1952], No. 19102/53. Class 58. A combine harvester of the type having a straw rack 24, Figs. 1 and 2, extending across the normal direction of travel of the machine and a hood 56 which directs straw from the discharge end of the rack to the ground at the stubbleward side of the machine has a rotatable shaft 71 journalled in the hood which shaft is rotated in the direction indicated by the arrow 80 and carries flails 86 which spread straw across the direction of travel. The hood may support a chaff deflector 88 under the discharge end of the rack. The upper surface of the deflector 88 may deflect straw, the lower surface chaff. The hood may carry a straw deflector 87 which may lie in a plane parallel to the plane containing the chaff deflector. Specification 477,837 is referred to.
