734,151. Float-actuated valves. DICKINSON, O. A. July 14, 1953 [July 17, 1952], No. 19543/53. Class 135. In a float-actuated cistern supply valve comprising a body member 11, Fig. 3, having an inlet connection 13, a valve seat holder 16 pivotally mounted on the body and housing a circular valve washer 32, and a bent float arm 38, Fig. 1, detachably connected to the holder, the float arm may be adjusted to vary the height of the float 36 relative to the valve seat 24 and the washer 32 may be expelled from the holder by the float arm and reinserted therein so that its opposite unworn face may be presented to the seat 24. The axes of the seat and washer may be offset from each other or the washer may be made rectangular with semi-circular ends so that further unworn surfaces may be presented to the valve seat. In a modification, to provide a plurality of surfaces for presentation to the seat 24, the washer 32 may be replaced by a ball 32B, Fig. 7, or alternatively by a cubeshaped valve member, held in position by a cap-nut 41. The body member and holder are provided with shrouds to protect the valve and prevent splashing.
