Abstract

733,565. Speed governors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CURTIS, T. J. Oct. 8, 1953 [Oct. 8,1952],no. 25233/52. Class 57. [Also in Group XXXVII] A centrifugal governor comprises a base 1 adapted to be coupled to a rotatable member and having a number of weights 5 which are arranged to pivot away from the axis of the governor under the influence of centrifugal force and are biased to their rest positions by spring means 11, two or, more of the weights being- linked together to move in synchronism. The base 1, which may be mounted on the shaft of an electric motor, is of moulded insulation material and consists of a hub 2 and a radial flange 3. The weights 5 are pivotally connected by pins 4 to one face of the flange and carry guide pins 10 which pass through apertures in the base 1 and engage slots 9 in a guide plate 7 rotatably mounted on the hub 2. These slots are inclined at an angle of about 30 degrees to the radial line of the governor so that the guide plate 7 is rotated against the action of the spring means 11 as the weights 5 fly outwardly. The means 11 may comprise one or more helical springs and the guide plate 7 may have an outer diameter which is only slightly less than that of the flange 3. Strikers 6 may be arranged to actuate an electric switch (see Group XXXVII). Specification 733,564, [Group XXXVII], is referred to. '
