[Also in Group XXVIII] In a fastening of the kind in which a channel section clamping ring 1 has wedging engagement with opposed flanges 4 of the parts to be secured, and is contractible to draw the flanges together, the clamping ring comprises three or more flexibly connected segments 11, the terminal segments being secured by a toggle mechanism which consists of a T-headed bolt 21 axially adjustable in the segment 11<SP>1</SP>, a pair of links 19 pivoted to the bolt-head 20, and a lever 17 pivoted intermediately to the links. A toggle pin 28 at the end of the lever engages a recess 29 in the segment 11<SP>11</SP>, the clamp being contracted when the links 19 are moved to an over-dead-centre position wherein the lever, which is of channel-section and longitudinally curved, closely embraces the clamp. In one form the segments are connected by a pair of pivoted links 12. The links of each pair may be joined by an integral bridge 31. In another form the segments have a tongue and slot connection secured by a transverse pivot pin. In a modification the segments 11 are carried by a resilient strap 45, Fig. 9, having narrow portions 50 adjacent the gaps between the segments and wider channel portions 49 which embrace the segments. Each segment is a sheet metal pressing having beaded edges 46. The nut 43<SP>1</SP> of the T-bolt 21 comprises a swivel pin ina terminal loop of the strap. The toggle pin 54 is secured in another terminal loop, and is engaged by notches 55 in the end of the lever 171. The clamp may be locked by a split pin 60 passing through the lever adjacent the links 19, or the split pin may pass through the lever and the segment 11<SP>11</SP>. To provide circumferential resilience the bolt 21 may pass freely through the swivel pin 43<SP>1</SP>, a nut (Fig. 14, not shown) bearing through a coiled spring on the pin 431.
