731,543. Cleaning and/or degreasing strip material. GORDON, J. A. Oct. 14, 1953 [July 14, 1952], No. 17770/52. Class 82 (2). [Also in Group XIII] A machine for cleaning and/or degreasing strip material, and in particular metal strip, comprises a washing section through which the strip 1 is passed and which contains liquid detergent jets 9 and wipers 10 serving to remove most of the liquid, following which the strip is passed between suction rolls 13 and 14 which remove any remaining liquid. The rolls are mounted on arms 15 and 16 pivoted to the stand 17 and movable by rotation of the hand wheel 21 to adjust the pressure on the strip. The rolls have a rubbercovered steel surface with apertures 29 and 30 through which air is drawn to the space between the bars 27, which is maintained under suction. The position of this space is angularly adjustably by slots 33 and bolts 34, and sealing elements 28 allow the remainder of the roll interiors to be maintained at a super-atmospheric pressure to direct a jet of air tangentially on to the outgoing strip.
