Abstract

731,324. Ingot moulds. VALLAK, E. May 5, 1953 [May 15, 1952], No. 12429/53. Class 83 (1). A hot-top 2 of combustible or charrable material mounted in or on a chill mould 1 so as to surround the top of the ingot is composed of porous material so as to enable gases formed in the combustion &c. of the hottop to escape from the mould through the walls of the hot top. The gases may pass to atmosphere through passages 3 in the chill mould wall, or pass to an annular chamber 4, discharging thence through pipes 5 against the top surface of the ingot, to burn and heat the charge. A perforated sheet-metal wall may surround the hot-top. The hot-top may be formed in one piece or in four pieces, Fig. 2, and be of compressed peat, saw-dust, charcoal, or coke, with a binder.
