Abstract

731,319. Pipe joints. DREH PATENTS, Ltd. April 14, 1954 [April 14, 1953], No. 10205/53. Class 99 (1). The end portion of a pipe 1 is expanded to produce a socket 3 of larger diameter than and coaxial with the pipe proper, and the wall 4 of the socket is deformed to a zig-zag sinuous form in cross-section so that it is internally and externally screw-threaded. An externally screwthreaded sleeve 7 which fits freely over a pipe 2 is screwed into the socket and presses a sealing ring 9, e.g. of rubber, plastic, or soft metal, against an internal shoulder constituted by a flared portion 10 of the socket. The ring 9 may be rectangular in cross-section or profiled to match the portion 10. There may be a portion 11 of the pipe 1 having an internal diameter greater than the external diameter of the pipe 2. In a modification, the ring 9 is replaced by a bead or ridge formed in the pipe 2. Specification 719,143 is referred to.
