Abstract
730,530. Coke oven bracings. KOPPERS GES., H. Oct. 6, 1953 [Oct. 6, 1952], No. 27469/53. Class 51 (2). In a coke oven battery having an upper structure built of silica bricks and a lower structure of fireclay bricks, buckstays which extend over the full height of the oven structure, and an adjustable auxiliary bracing for one of the two structural sections, the overall length of the upper structure 2 is such that after heating up the battery the outer faces are substantially flush with those of the lower structure 1, Fig. 2, and the auxiliary bracing comprises an I-girder 16 extending substantially over the height of the oven chambers 4 and disposed between two 1-girders comprising the main buckstays 10. The buckstay girders 10 are held together by plates 17 and bolts 26 located in distance pieces 27, which latter extend through slots 28 in the web of the auxiliary girder 16. Initially the girder 16 is pressed against the upper structure by springs 18, the pressure of which is eased by adjusting screws 21 as the brickwork expands. When the expansion is complete the girders 16 may be removed, or the springs 18 may be replaced by rigid distance pieces. The buckstay girders 10 are cranked inwards to abut one another at the lower oven structure, Fig. 3 (not shown). Opposite girders 10 are held by the tie rods 11 below the regenerators 3, tie rods 12 in the roof of the battery associated with springs 15 and adjustable nuts 13, and the tie rods 29 extending through the rich gas ducts 8 in the oven sole 7 and associated with springs 31 and adjustable nuts 30. The tie rods 29 may be removed after the battery is heated up.
