Abstract

Diphosphopyridine-nucleotide (DPN) is purified by forming a salt therewith and a cinchona alkaloid and then splitting the salt into its components. The salt may be formed by mixing solutions of the components or by double decomposition, e.g. from the barium salt of the nucleotide and quinine sulphate. The splitting of the salt is achieved by passing a solution thereof through an ion-exchange resin in the acetate form, whereby the alkaloid acetate passes through and the nucleotide is adsorbed. The latter may be eluted with a strong acid and precipitated with an organic solvent. An example is given of the process.
