Abstract
729,934. Electrostatic-precipitation. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 4, 1953 [Aug. 14, 1952], No. 20492/52. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group II] To separate thin mica laminµ from a mixture containing laminae of different thickness, the mixture is allowed to fall freely down a pipe 7 until the laminµ have attained different terminal velocities and is then subjected to a transverse electrostatic field between a coronaproducing-wire-electrode 3 and a conveyer-beltelectrode 2, whereby the slower travelling thin laminae are deflected towards the belt and held there by their charge. The thin laminµ may be removed from the belt by a mechanical brush or an ionizing field from an electrode 10 which applies a reverse electrostatic charge, or an alternating ionizing potential to the laminµ.
