Abstract
In a process for the electrical precipitation of suspended particles from gases, particularly from those containing dust of poor conductivity, the polarity of the electrodes is changed at such time intervals from \ba1/5\be-second upwards that positively and negatively charged layers of dust are deposited alternately on the electrodes preventing the formation of a highly charged layer of badly conducting dust on the electrodes. by neutralization of its charge. The process may be applied to precipitators in which the gases are passed through an ionizing field having electrodes of one polarity only and subsequently through a field having positively and negatively charged non-ionizing electrodes, the polarity of the electrodes of either field being reversed at suitable time intervals.
