Abstract

994,627. Electrostatic precipitators. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. May 11, 1964 [May 11, 1963], No. 19554/64. Heading B2J. An asymmetrical alternating voltage is applied between two electrodes in an electrostatic precipitator 4, the ratio of the amplitudes of two consecutive half cycles of the A.C. being such that the charge built up on the precipitated dust on the collecting electrode during a half cycle is discharged during the following half cycle of smaller amplitude. The circuit from a transformer 1 contains a half wave rectifier 2 shunted by an impedance such as an ohmic resistor 3 which is adjustable for varying the said ratio. The rectifier and resistor may be provided on either the H.T. or earthed side of the precipitator 4.
