Abstract
556,153. Electrostatic separators. ROSIN INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH CO., Ltd., DR., and DEUTSCH, W. March 17, 1942, No. 3532. [Class 72] In an electrostatic separator, the mixture a to be treated is fed through two hoppers b<SP>1</SP> b<SP>2</SP> on to a carrier electrode c consisting of an inclined sheet which is shaken or vibrated longitudinally. The thin layer d of material glides slowly through a corona field formed between the electrode c and a corona electrode g, consisting of a metallic point or thin wire or a set of points or wires. The material, preferably after passing through a steadying zone h formed between the electrode c and a stationary or movable screen electrode c<SP>1</SP>, then enters the separating zone j formed between the curved end of the electrode c and a separating electrode k either in the form, as shown, of a rotating cylinder contacted by a brush m or a stationary disc or plate. The desired potentials are applied to the electrodes and supplied from any source of high tension D.C. the neutral point n of a star connected three phase transformer o being connected with the electrode c and hence also to the hopper b<SP>2</SP> while the corona electrode g and the screen electrode c<SP>1</SP> are electrically connected together and receive a D.C. high potential from a mechanical rectifier connected on the A.C. side of the transformer, one of the two rotating electrodes of q being earthed as well as the receptacle l divided into compartments l<SP>1</SP>, l<SP>2</SP>, l<SP>3</SP>. The electrode c may be in the form of a movable metal or metal-coated endless belt.
