729,547. Thread twisting. PAG PATENTGES. AKT.-GES. Nov. 2, 1951 [Nov. 4, 1950], No. 25713/51. Class 120(2). A process for twisting threads, &c., is characterized in that the thread is led directly from a rotatable supply bobbin through a bore in a vertical spindle to a fixed point below the spindle on the spindle axis at which point twisting of the thread ceases, the part of the thread between the supply bobbin and the spindle bore having the form of a balloon and the thread passing through the bore from above the spindle to below the spindle, the twist length for the thread being the distance between the inlet to the spindle bore and the said fixed point. Apparatus for the process comprises in the arrangement shown a vertical spindle 1 having a bore 2, and the thread is guided downwards from the supply bobbin 44 through the said bore and is, on its emergence from the lower end of said bore taken over pulleys 5, 6 vertically upwards over a pulley 9, a deflecting bar 10 and a thread guide 11 to the winding bobbin 12 driven by the roller 13. A flange 33 is fixed to the spindle 1 and below this flange are disposed two resilient discs or collars 18 between which the spindle rail 7 is held by means of a metal disc 20, a spring 36 and two nuts 34. A sleeve 37 formed to carry the supply bobbin, is rotatably mounted on the spindle 1 above the flange 33, the lower end of which sleeve serves as a belt pulley or wharve. In another embodiment the spindle is rotated and the supply bobbin is mounted directly thereon.
