Abstract

729,206. Magnetic amplifiers. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Sept. 26, 1951 [Oct. 2, 1950], No. 22508/51. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] An arrangement for deriving a signal indication by selective response to two currents of predetermined magnitudes comprises, Fig. 6, two saturable transformers connected in cascase, currents of the predetermined values being applied to windings 243, 252 on the cores of the transformers. When the input currents to winding 246, 251 are identical with the predetermined currents, the cores are desaturated so that a path is opened from the oscillator 240 to the rectifier network 255 and output terminals 256. In the alternative arrangement, Fig. 7, the windings on the limbs of the transformers 261, 262 are connected in series to operate as saturable core reactors. Currents of the prescribed values are applied to windings 278, 279 and the application of identical signal currents to the windings 276, 277 suppresses or decreases substantially the output normally derived at terminals 282 from the oscillator 264 via rectified network 281. A capacitor 268 tunes the system to series resonance when the cores are saturated and a second capacitor 271 tunes the inductances represented by the windings on the cores to parallel resonance at the frequency of the generator 264 when the cores are unsaturated.
