Abstract

728,819. Filters. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 6, 1953 [Feb. 6, 1952], No. 3175/52. Class 46. [Also in Group XI] In a fluid fuel burner the fuel, e.g. vaporized hydrocarbon, before reaching a small bore jet outlet 19, is filtered by passage through a duct 7 whose minimum dimension transversely of the direction of fuel flow is less than the diameter of the bore of the jet 19, and which provides a fuel passage of minimum cross sectional area greater than that of the bore of the jet 19. Fuel is fed through a pipe 13 to an annular chamber 12 to pass thence through the filtering duct 7, having flat side walls, to a groove 14 leading through holes 15 into a bore 8 in a bolt 6, and thence discharges through the jet 19. The transverse dimension of the duct 7 is determined by the width of a washer 5 clamped between two cylindrical members 1, 2 between which the passages 7, 12 are formed. The filtering duct may, alternatively, be of rectangular cross section.
