Abstract
728,144. Automatic fluid level control systems. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. June 11, 1953 [June 16, 1952], No. 15064/52. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXII] Means for maintaining a constant casting speed in continuous casting from a tiltable receptacle, which receptacle has such a shape that deviations of the casting speed from proportionality with the tilting speed are kept within narrow limits, are characterized by a speed regulator for a tilting motor acting to keep the tilting speed directly dependent on the level of the metal surface in the mould. The top portion 3 of the mould I within which the free level of the metal is permitted to vary is cooled by a separate flow of cooling medium, the difference in temperature at the inlet and outlet of said medium being therefore substantially proportional to the height of the level surface above the bottom of the said separately cooled portion. The said temperature difference is measured by an indicating instrument 5 comprising two thermometers and a differential gear. An adjustable resistor 6 in the field circuit of a Ward Leonard generator 7 feeding the tilting motor 8, may be adjusted directly by the instrument 5 through for example a torque amplifier, or hand adjusted on a followthe-pointer system. In a modification, thermal sensitive resistors are incorporated in a bridge network. The receptacle 2 is of the type described in Specification 728,143, [Group XXII]. The Provisional Specification refers to the use of tilting motors of the Schrage type.
