Abstract
989,011. Electric correspondence control systems. BROWN, BOVERI &CO. Ltd. Feb.16, 1962 [Feb. 16, 1961], No. 6050/62. Heading G1N. The temperature at different parts of e,g. a steam turbine are determined electrically and the maximum difference recorded as indicative of the maximum stress produced due to temperature difference, whereby the conditions of loading &c. may be manually or automatically controlled to ensure that the maximum permissible stress is not exceeded. The temperatures are measured by thermocouples 3, 4, 5 (Fig. 2) located in a probe mounted on the stator of the machine, with thermocouple 3 measuring the maximum temperature, 4 the minimum temperature and 5 the average temperature. The difference between the outputs of thermocouples 3, 4, indicative of the actual thermal stress, is amplified at 8, modified in accordance with additional stress dependent on the average temperature or the temperatures difference, and indicated by line 10 on a recording instrument 7. The maximum permissible stress is obtained by amplifying at 9 the signal from thermocouple 5, producing limit lines 11a, 11b on meter 7 for the measured stress line 10. The machine operating conditions can be automatically controlled by a regulator 13 fed with the signals U 1 representing the actual stress, U 2 the maximum permissible stress, #U the permitted tolerance, dU 1 the rate of change of stress &c. dt
