Abstract

728,140. Ventilators. COOPER & CO., Ltd., H. W. March 30, 1953 [April 1, 1952], No. 8313/52. Class 137. A ventilator of the kind comprising one, or more, louvres 5 carried by supports 4 pivoted at 3 to a frame 1, mounted in an opening, e.g. in a wall, is provided with locking means including a lever 9 which is automatically brought into a looking position when the ventilator is shut, the arrangement being such that any force applied directly to the louvres to pivot them open will only tend to urge further the lever into its locking position. The lever 9, pivoted at 10 to a bar 8 linking arms 6 on the support 4, is provided with a cam-shaped nose portion 11 adapted to cooperate with an abutment stud 12 on a side member of the frame 1, a coil spring 13, mounted on the lever 9 adjacent the pivot 10, urging a finger 15 against the stud 12 to rotate the lever 9 anti-clockwise into its locking position. A cord 16 connected to the upper end of the lever 9, when pulled downward, rotates the nose 11 out of locking engagement with the stud 12 until it abuts a pin 17 on the frame 1, whereupon the pin acts as a fulcrum and further rotation of the lever moves the link bar 8 downward to open the louvres. More than one locking arrangement may be fitted to a ventilator, and the louvres may be pivoted about vertical axes in which case spring means are provided to urge the louvres into their closed position. Remote control means may be provided to operate the louvres.
