Abstract

1395890 Fire-operated damper I FRASER 24 Nov 1972 [4 Dec 1971] 56378/71 Heading A5A [Also in Division F4] A ventilating damper comprises a frame 3, pivotally mounted louvre blades 4 linked by a bar 6 and biased by a spring 17 to a closed position, a lever 7 for selecting the open position of the louvres and a catch for holding the lever in its selected position and including a bi-metallic element on the lever 7 which releases the catch at a predetermined temperature e.g. in the event of fire to permit closure of the louvre blades 4. The lever 7 includes two legs on either side of and pivotally mounted on a sector shaped portion 12 of the frame, the legs having openings alignable with openings 14 in portion 12 and the bi-metallic element being U-shaped and having bosses 16 on the legs thereof which engage the aligned openings, under the pressure of a spring. The openings 14 may be replaced by indents, and the bosses 16 by a spring loaded pawl or pawls movable out of engagement with the indents by the bi-metallic element. Fixed louvres 2 and an outer frame 1 to be secured to a wall are provided.
