Abstract

727,981. Colouring raised parts of embossed sheets. STEPHENS, H. C. April 17, 1953 [Jan. 18, 1952], No. 1475/52. Class 100 (2). An equipment for colouring an embossed sheet comprises a plate 17, Fig. 1, having an aperture 18 formed therein adapted to leave the embossment uncovered when the sheet is positioned under the plate and an inking element 27, Fig. 2, having a flat face 30 to which ink is applied from an ink pad, the element 27 being shaped and dimensioned so as to be insertable in the aperture 18 and to rest on the embossment. The inking surface 30 may comprise a layer of fabric stretched over the face of the element 27. Grooves 29 around the periphery of the element receive the edges of the fabric and also serve to collect excess ink. The apertured plate 17 may be hinged to a plate 16 and both may be mounted on a baseboard 10 also carrying the embossing press 11, a detachable inking pad 21 and a clip 24 for holding an ink bottle 23. Alternatively the aperture 18 may be formed as a slot so that the inking element may be slid over the embossment from one end of the plate engaging the raised parts with a light pressure.
