Abstract

727,123. Separation of dust from gases. RESEARCH CORPORATION. Aug. 5, 1953 [Aug. 19, 1952], No. 21602/53. Class 8 (2). [Also in Groups II and XL (a)] In apparatus for separating dust from gas comprising mechanical and electrostatic separators 28, 10, Fig. 1, in series, dust from the mechanical separator is fed to the inlet 22 of the electrostatic separator adjacent a particle receiving hopper 12 thereof e.g., through a duct 36 blower 38 and ducts 40, 42, 44. In a modification wherein the mechanical separator precedes the electrostatic precipitator the dust passes directly from the separator to the precipitator. The mechanical separator 28 comprises a plurality of spaced vertical vanes 32, Fig. 2, angularly disposed to the gas flow and vertical U-shaped dust collecting troughs 34 from which dust is removed by a rapper bar 45.
