Abstract
727,036. Shower pipes of paper-making machines &c. AUSTIN, C. March 5, 1953 [April 2, 1952], No. 8361/52. Class 96. A shower pipe 1 for use with white water &c. in a paper-making machine has an insert at the inlet end which may be constituted as a constriction, or as an obstruction 131, such that the water is accelerated due to the restricted area, e.g. at 13, and thereafter decelerated, e.g. at 14. Grooves or ridges 141 in or on the insert impart rotary movement to the water, the effects being to break up fibres &c. in the water and to keep the spray outlets from clogging. The far end of the pipe 1 is closed by a cap or flap to allow interior cleaning, and adjacent to the said cap &c. is an outlet branch-pipe so that impurities do not accumulate there. Each spray outlet is fitted with a disc having a central orifice and a diametrical groove or ridge for spreading the spray, or water jets may impinge on baffles.
